1. They Make Their Own Red Sunscreen!
Hippos spend all day under the hot African sun, but they never get sunburned. Why? Hippos make a special red liquid from their skin that acts like natural sunscreen! When it comes out, it looks like pink or red sweat. It protects their skin from the sun and keeps them clean from bad bugs!
2. Hippos Cannot Swim!
This is a huge surprise! Hippos live in rivers and lakes, but hippos actually cannot swim or float! Their bodies are too heavy to float. Instead, they walk or jog along the bottom of the river. When they want to move, they just push off the ground and bounce through the water!
